THE DOGGIE DAYS OF SUMMER TRAVEL

SURVEY: MILLONS OF PETS ARE TAKING THEIR HUMANS ON VACATION THIS SUMMER

After several stressful months of lying around the house and taking long naps only to be awakened by humans for a meal, treats, belly rubs, a game of fetch or the time of the day to yell at the mailman, let’s face it, many canines and felines in our country are in serious need of a relaxing vacation. Dogs and cats who live with millennial human beings are in luck because according to findings from an online survey of 2,004 American adults conducted by Atomik Research, millions of pets are taking their homo sapien housemates on trips this summer.

  • There are some millennials who will occasionally leave their fur babies behind while taking a trip, but the majority (53%, n=593) say they often or always take their pet or pets with them on summer vacations.
  • More than 3 in 5 (62%, n=593) millennials plan their summer vacations around their pets, which includes booking places to stay along the way and upon reaching their desired destination.
  • More than half of millennials (52%, n=593) only stay at pet-friendly hotels and Airbnbs.

Overall, nearly 85% of American adults are expected to travel this summer and roughly two-thirds of U.S. households in 2023 have a pet, so there will be literally millions of dogs, cats and who knows how many other species traveling with their humans across the country. Remember to watch where you’re stepping at rest areas!
